My sensitive and fair skin is prone to a multitude of issues, but one of the most persistent (and curious!) afflictions is my tendency to attract sunspots. In an attempt to learn more about what causes them and how to prevent them, I decided to do a little research in between dermatologist appointments.
It turns out that sunspots, which appear on my skin as what looks like large and lighter-toned freckles, are caused by the skin’s consistent exposure to the sun. They often appear on people who have spent a lot of time at the beach, but there’s a chance that age and spending more time outside can have an effect as well. I know that my skin is shockingly sensitive to the sun, even late in the day when most people are safe from its harmful rays.
The good news is that although they may be a bit annoying, and while almost everyone will eventually suffer from a sunspot or two, they are thankfully harmless. Prevention is simple and can be achieved by wearing a broad spectrum SPF or wearing UV protectant clothing and hats when the sun is at its strongest.
The YON-KA Paris Solar Care options include broad spectrum protection ranging from SPF 20, 25 and 50.
To ensure that I am taking extra good care of my skin, I try to keep a close eye on my sunspots each season, knowing that they can be easily confused with the beginnings of skin cancer because of their irregular borders.
It is important to always check with your dermatologist if you are ever concerned about a spot on your skin. Be diligent about getting sunspots examined annually to rule out any potential trouble.
