It can be easy to let your sun protection habit slide when the weather cools, but the truth is that your skin needs protecting even if you’re no longer spending your days lounging by the pool.
I am extremely fair and have always had to be very cautious in the sun, however my best intentions still could not protect me from having a questionable mole removed last year. For this reason, I am a major advocate of year-round SPF.
While the sun feels strongest in the summer, the earth is actually closest to the sun in the winter, and to add insult to injury, the ozone layer that naturally protects us from harmful UV rays is at its thinnest.
While the cold weather can make us feel as though we are safe from the sun (who gets a sunburn in January!) the white snow reflects the sun’s rays back to us this time of year, making it doubly dangerous.
To protect your skin from the sun, invest in a quality SPF and apply it every single day. Those of us who are not great about keeping up with this important routine, will be happy to find that the market is full of beautiful sun-protecting products. They are even masquerading as things already found in our beauty bags: makeup primers, tinted moisturizers, facial moisturizers and even skin serums.
In short, the excuse for not wearing SPF in Fall and Winter has never been weaker!
