I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, but in my neck of the woods it was suddenly summer a couple of weeks ago. We didn’t get much of a spring and so I had done very little planning for summer skincare (read: SPF) before our first big pool weekend. While I was able to pull the appropriate sun protection products together for my family, it’s our time away from the pool that has made me realize how important a summer skincare strategy really is.
First things first, yes, SPF is key. To help make this a daily step in your skincare regimen, pick a sunscreen that you enjoy using that feels comfortable on your skin. You’re more likely to wear SPF regularly if you do this. Quick tip: I find that purchasing a sunscreen specifically formulated for face helps to keep breakouts at bay and tends to play more nicely with my foundation. To give a little love to the skin below your neck, add a sunless tanning lotion to your post-shower routine. Look for something with rich hydrators to make your skin feel soft and supple. Remember to exfoliate your skin before application to help prevent streaks and uneven color from developing.
Two of the areas showing the most age on my face are my eye and lip contours, so products made for these targeted areas are crucial in my book, especially during summertime. A multifunctional eye and lip contour product is a great way to treat numerous anti-aging concerns all at once and it’s super convenient. Don’t forget to wear a great pair of sunglasses to protect the eye area too!
Sometimes wearing sunscreen can result in clogged pores and dull skin. That’s why it’s important to choose a formula that’s non-comedogenic, and to keep up a proper cleansing and exfoliation regimen to keep skin purified. Guarana Scrub is a great option when it comes to an exfoliating scrub. It helps to buff away impurities and unclog pores which reveals smooth, clear skin again.
Finally, to stay beautiful from the inside out, I am sure to pump extra ounces of water into my daily intake. It helps to counter balance summer dehydration, maintain energy levels (just try 8 ounces in lieu of your afternoon cup of joe!) and also to regulate your body temperature – a must during the hot months.
