6 Ways to Add Aromatherapy to Your Evening Routine

There’s nothing better than coming home after a long day and just relaxing. But it can be hard to unwind when the day has left us stressed; we have mile-long to-do lists, and notifications are constantly popping up on our phones. We often feel compelled to tackle everything before the end of the day. When you finally crawl into bed, you feel exhausted, but your mind just won’t shut off.

If this sounds like you, it’s time for a change. Luckily, there are a few easy ways you can quiet the mind and drift off to sleep peacefully by using aromatherapy. Just a few of the essential oils that can help promote sleep, calm the mind and body, and help with restlessness are: lavender, valerian, vetiver, and Roman chamomile. Here are our favorite ways to incorporate aromatherapy into an evening routine…

1. Massage

A great way to utilize aromatherapy in your nightly routine is to use it for massages. Use the essential oil of your choice and mix it with a natural carrier oil. Natural carrier oils such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil are good options! If you don’t have anyone to give you a massage, give one to yourself! A hand, foot, or face massage will help soothe and ease you into sleep. You can also massage your favorite oil into pulse points like your wrists or behind the ears for the same results. Make sure you do your research first because some essential oils can only be applied to the skin when diluted first. This is why a natural carrier oil is recommended. Try HUILE CORPS for a gorgeous blend of aromatics with nourish and skin silkening benefits.

2. Before Bed Hydrating Facial

Treating yourself to a DIY facial before bed is a great way to calm yourself with the tranquility of soothing scents while hydrating your skin. I recommend investing in Yon-Ka’s CREME 11 for your before bed routine. It is a light but emollient face cream that leaves skin soft without any oiliness. Its special blend of chamomile, arnica, yarrow, german chamomile, horse chestnut, and hamamelis will allow you to rest with ease.

3. Bath Time

A warm bath can do wonders for your body and mind on its own, but adding a few drops of an essential oil can be a huge help at night. Pick your favorite oil and add a few drops to a warm bath by adding it directly under the running water. This will ensure the oil is dispersed throughout the tub. Let yourself soak for 20-30 minutes for instant relaxation. The warm water will feel soothing on your tired muscles, while the inhaling the oils will help you relax. PHYTO-BAIN contains essential oils of petitgrain, lavender in a non –oily base. It’s perfect for recreating the spa experience at home.

4. Oil Diffuser

Fill your bedroom with pleasant scents as you drift off to dreamland by using an oil diffuser. A little goes a long way with essential oils, so a few drops should fill your entire room and have you feeling zen in no time.

5. DIY Linen Spray

You could go to the store and buy an expensive linen spray that claims to send you off into a peaceful slumber, but the truth is… You don’t have to spend that kind of money. You can easily make your own linen spray at home with a few ingredients. Mix one ounce of witch hazel, three ounces of water, and 8-12 drops of lavender oil (or whichever oil you prefer) in a spray bottle. Then, just spritz your pillow and sheets before you climb into bed. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

6. Drawer Liners

Another money-saving DIY you can try is an aromatherapy drawer liner. Again, you can find pricy scented drawer liners at the store, but it’s just as easy to make your own at home. Choose a colorful paper or go with one that matches your drawer, cut it to size, and then spray the back with the linen spray you made. Don’t soak the paper, but make sure to evenly coat it. Lay it flat to dry and then place it inside your pajama drawer. The essential oils will infuse your pajamas, so whenever you wear them the scent will stay with you all night long. If that doesn’t say bliss, I don’t know what does!

  • I love aromatherapy essential oils in the bathtub but have never put it under the running water, that's a great idea. I'm also gonna try the aromatherapy linen spray. Thanks for the great article.
