Why You Should Add Aromatherapy to Your Daily Routine

Have you thought about using aromatherapy in your daily routine? If not, you should.  Aromatherapy can be used in a variety of ways. You can use a diffuser to fill your home with your favorite relaxing scents, take a bath with bath oil to help you unwind, or certain essential oils can be applied to the skin. Aromatherapy actually provides many benefits beyond just helping you to relax. Here are five benefits to show you how aromatherapy can help you lead a healthier life.

1. It helps stress melt away.

Feeling stressed is something we can all relate to. But if you’re having trouble coping with those stressful days, aromatherapy just might be the answer to help your stress melt away. Studies have shown that aromatherapy using lavender scents has been proven to relieve stress. So, the next time you’re feeling a bit stressed, turn to aromatherapy for relief. Whether you allow these scents to fill your home or apply them to your skin, you can feel that stress and tension disappear.

2. It fights depression.

Feeling a little blue? It turns out that aromatherapy can boost your mood. Simply smelling certain scents can lift your spirits and have you feeling like yourself in no time at all. The best scents to go for when you’re feeling bummed are citrusy ones. Citrus scents are fresh and vibrant and are sure to put a smile back on your face.

3. It improves blood pressure.

Studies have also shown aromatherapy to be effective in lowering the blood pressure of people with hypertension. Because aromatherapy can help you to relax your body and mind, it makes sense that it could help return your blood pressure to a normal rate. Of course, this isn’t a cure for someone who has chronically high blood pressure, but it’s great to turn to when you just need to calm your body and a busy a mind.

4. It improves sleep.

If you’re having trouble falling asleep at night, try incorporating some soothing aromatherapy scents into your nightly routine. You can soak in a warm tub with bath oil, use a diffuser, or even give your pillow a quick spritz to help you unwind. My recommendation; try lavender to help you drift off to dream land.

5. It treats your skin!

Essential oils are excellent ingredients in skincare products to treat the skin.  Aromatic essences are very light weight and they penetrate easily into the skin, promoting various skin benefits.  For example:  detoxifying, oxygenating, tightening, healing, and anti-septic actions.
