Strolling through the vitamin aisle at your local store can be quite a daunting task. There are so many to choose from. What do they all DO?
If you’re looking for clear skin, there are a few vitamins you should consider adding to your daily routine to banish acne…
Zinc
Zinc is an anti-inflammatory and effective in helping acne in a couple of ways. First, zinc helps to control your body’s oil production. Oil production is a key cause to acne, so if you can regulate the oil your body is producing, it will help keep those breakouts to a minimum.
Dealing with scars that old breakouts left behind? They’re the worst, right? Taking zinc can also help diminish their appearance.
Vitamin A
You may already be familiar with retinoid skin creams and you’ve possibly tried yourself! These creams are a synthetic from of Vitamin A that is prescribed to treat acne topically. When taken orally, Vitamin A promotes healthy skin because of its ability to help cell turnover. If you’ve ever heard of Accutane, which is commonly prescribed for people with severe acne, it’s actually a very high dosage of Vitamin A.
You want to make sure you’re getting enough Vitamin A in your diet from supplements and the foods you eat. A Vitamin A deficiency is said to cause acne, which none of us want! The upper limit of vitamin A set by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences is 10,000 IU per day.
Borage Seed Oil
You may not have heard of this oil before, but it has some great benefits for your skin. It’s a GLA fatty acid and has been linked to stimulating skin growth, reducing inflammation, and maintaining hormonal balance. That makes it a triple threat against acne!
Vitamin E
A powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals on the skin, Vitamin E can also help in repairing damaged skin and it promotes healing. Whether you are trying to heal an existing breakout or fade the damage a pesky pimple has left on your skin, you will want Vitamin E on your side.
Omega 3
To find your daily dose of Omega 3, you’ll want to reach for fish oil or flax seed oil. Either of these sources will help to protect your skin’s lipids and prevent infection. Although fish oil may sound gross, it’s actually the preferable choice here. When you see what it can do for your skin, you’ll have no problem dealing with that fishy taste! If you follow a vegetarian diet or you have difficulty digesting fish oil, you can take flax seed oil as an alternative.
With these vitamins in your daily routine, you’ll be seeing clearer skin in no time!
Do you take any of these vitamins? I’d love to hear what has worked for you in the comments!
