I’m the type of person who likes to keep things simple. When it comes to skincare there is so much information out there and so many recommendations for how best to care for your skin that it can become overwhelming. Let’s make it easy and break down five things to do for your skin on a daily basis – regardless of what type of skin you may have.
1. Remove your makeup.
I don’t care how tired you are! Sleeping in your makeup is a big no-no because it causes unnecessary exposure to free radicals, not to mention that all of that gunk clogs your pores. Worse, sleeping in your eye makeup can cause irritation and even little infections at the base of your eyelashes called styes.
2. Apply SPF.
Make sure to apply a layer of sunscreen with SPF 25 to your face daily. This is an important one even if you’re not going to be outdoors for large chunks of time. We are exposed to the sun while driving, sitting in our offices with windows and running errands or walking the dog. These little bouts of sun exposure add up to be damaging and can cause premature aging.
3. Hydrate.
Moisturizer is one simple step towards radiant and supple skin. Even if your face is oily, the benefits of the right moisturizer are invaluable. Just like you wouldn’t go a day without drinking water, your skin shouldn’t go a day without hydration. Moisturizer keeps skin healthy and it locks in water for a smoother, softer, and fresher look.
4. Massage.
I bet you didn’t know that a gentle facial massage brings a myriad of benefits to your outward appearance. I like to do this when applying my moisturizer or washing my face. You can apply a little light pressure in circular motion to stimulate the skin. All movements should be upward towards the hairline and trust me when I tell you that this feels invigorating in the mornings and amazing at the end of a long day.
5. Nourish.
Did you know that you should feed your face? It’s true! A proper nutritional diet or supplements that provide a spectrum of vitamins and minerals will keep your skin looking healthy. The good news is that most face-friendly foods are delicious – and even chocolate is on the list! Learn some of my favorite here.
