The truth is, something simple in your daily routine could be irritating your skin without you even realizing it. Those skin “remedies” you’re using; they can actually cause skin problems for those who have sensitivity or rosacea. You may think some of your daily activities are healthy, but they could be causing flare-ups that leave your skin looking red and blotchy.

Did you know that extreme temperatures can actually be aggravating to your skin? People typically turn to steaming to open their pores and clear them of dirt and bacteria, but if you have sensitive skin or are already dealing with rosacea, it’s best to skip this beauty treatment! Forgo the sauna and don’t spend too much time in a hot shower. Try making your showers as quick as possible and be sure to use lukewarm water instead.
We often reach for lemon to add to our drinks because it’s great for the digestive system, but it can cause redness in our skin. If you notice that your skin flushes or gets warm periodically, try avoiding lemon (as well as spices such as cinnamon and cayenne) and see if it reduces the amount of flare-ups you experience.
I love my wine, but it could be yet another culprit of your sensitive skin. A glass of red wine a day is said to have health benefits, but the sulfites can cause red, inflamed skin for some people. If you notice that irritation is occurring after a glass of wine, try switching to another drink or avoiding alcohol entirely. Sulfites can also cause headaches and congested sinuses.
While the sun may provide us with a healthy dose of Vitamin D, it can also cause sunburns and other skin issues. Sun exposure is one of the number one most common rosacea triggers and heat and humidity are high up on that list as well. Also, if your skincare regime includes products like topical acne treatments, such as hydroxy acids and retinol, those products increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Protect yourself when you’re relaxing outside by wearing sunscreen and trying to stay in the shade!
Your spin class may help you stay fit, but one con to this workout is that it’s not the best for your skin. The heat combined with the constant sweating from that 60-minute class could be leaving you red and covered in blotches.
