How to Get Rid of an Ingrown Hair

How to Get Rid of an Ingrown Hair
Odds are, you’ve experienced an ingrown hair at some point in your life. That means you know how painful they can become. These inflamed bumps are pesky and typically leave us wondering how in the world we’re supposed to get rid of them. Well, you’ll want to bookmark this page for the next time you have an ingrown hair because we have a few tips to help you out! The next time one crops up, you’ll be able to banish it for good and rid yourself of any discomfort…

1. Exfoliate the Affected Area

If you’re able to spot an ingrown hair forming before it becomes an inflamed bump on your skin, you can tackle it first through exfoliation. By exfoliating the affected area once or twice a day, you can remove the dead skin cells and also decrease some of the inflammation. An easy way to exfoliate the body is to use a good quality body scrub. It’s important to choose a scrub with smooth particles, as opposed to jagged or rough particles, so not to cause any inflammation. Exfoliating regularly will help bring the hair to a head. Relatedly, if you get into the habit of exfoliating two to three times a week, this can actually help prevent ingrown hairs from forming in the first place.

2. Apply Heat

If you see the tip of the hair starting to surface, you’ll want to apply heat to the area. You’ve probably used hot water to steam your face and open your pores before and the same idea applies here. By using a hot compress, you can open up the pores and help the hair make its way out as smoothly as possible. To do this, all you need to do is wet a clean washcloth with hot water and apply it. Try leaving it on for 10 minutes. That should do the trick! Plus, it may add some relief if your ingrown hair is already starting to become painful. For additional care and to assist the hair with surfacing, apply Yon-Ka’s Juvenil directly to the affected ingrown after you are finished compressing. Juvenil is purifying concentrate that also calms and heals, and is particularly helpful for treating ingrown hairs.

3. Free the Hair

Once the hair has started to poke through your skin, your next step is to free the hair. This step might have you a little scared, but it’s not as bad as you might think. You just need to get a pair of clean, sharp tweezers to get the job done. To make sure your tweezers are clean and safe for use, clean them with alcohol beforehand. You don’t want to spread any bacteria to the affected area. Take your time completing this step because you need to make sure you pull the entire strand of hair out. You don’t want to break it off and be forced to start over from step one.

4. Calm Inflammation and Redness

Your final step is to calm any remaining inflammation and redness that’s lingering. A great product that can help with this is Yon-Ka’s Creme 11. It’s designed to be both soothing and calming at the same time, which should help settle the affected area as well as make it less red. Plus, it’s been tolerance tested by dermatologist, so it’s safe to use for all skin types. Horse chestnut and witch hazel also help deliver fast results to soothe your skin in no time at all. This cream also contains cereal germ oils, which help nourish the skin.
