Top 10 Winter Skin Care Tips Infographic
As the seasons change, so does the weather. This time of year, that change means chilling temperatures, cold winds, and dry air. All of this can strip away moisture from your skin leaving it dehydrated, dry, and itchy. While you can’t control the weather, you can control how your skin feels and looks through the rough winter months. Below are the top 10 winter skin care tips for keeping your skin hydrated, smooth, and healthy... Winter_Skin_Care_Tips

1. Wear The Right Clothes

Even during the milder winter days it is important to wear clothes that cover the majority of your body. This helps to prevent windburn, a condition that turns your skin red, making it very sensitive. Caused by high winds, low humidity, and the sun’s UV rays, windburn is much more prevalent during the winter and depletes your skin’s natural oils, causing dryness and irritation.

2. Always Wear SPF

SPF isn’t just for the beach. During the winter, the suns rays, combined with the reflection of the snow and ice, can damage your skin as much as in the summer. Be sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to all areas of your skin that will be exposed in the winter.

3. Moisturize Chapped Lips

We have all suffered from chapped lips as a result of harsh winter weather – and carrying a lip balm with SPF may not be enough to heal the pain.

For extremely chapped lips, try applying a few drop of YON-KA Serum to your lips for 10 minutes and removing with a soft tissue or cotton ball dipped in warm water. This mini nourishing lip mask will help to soothe discomfort and break the dehydration cycle.

4. Red Nose

Rudolph’s not the only one with a red nose in the winter. Spending time outdoors in cold weather can nearly cut circulation to your nose completely. To bring things back to normal, run warm water over a washcloth and compress it over your nose, returning circulation. Follow up with a thin layer of your favorite YON-KA moisturizer to make sure that the skin doesn’t dry out.

5. Invest in a Humidifier

The heat in your home has almost no moisture in it and this can cause just as much dry skin as the frigid air outside. Humidifiers infuse the air in your home with moisture, soothing dry skin. Investing in one may save you from dry, itchy winter skin.

6. Treat Rough Elbow Skin

Skin around large joints is thicker by design, in order to protect your bones. Unfortunately, this protective skin is often prone to dryness, which can be unsightly and uncomfortable.

Exfoliating this area with a body scrub such as YON-KA Phyto Gel Exfoliant, and following up with a thick moisturizer can keep this area soft and smooth.

7. Stick to Warm Showers

The heat, combined with the pressure from the shower, washes away oil from your skin. This oil not only protects your skin, it makes it moist and youthful. If you (like me!) love a hot, steamy shower, just make sure to apply a moisturizer immediately after you dry off to seal in hydration and keep your skin from drying out.

The YON-KA Paris Lait Corps has fantastic hydrating properties.

8. Drink More Water

As we’ve mentioned in past articles, drinking water is extremely beneficial to keeping your skin happy. This is additionally important during the winter season. As your skin is more likely to dry out due to the decreased humidity, you must replenish the top level of moisture your skin gives off to protect itself by drinking more water.

9. Change Eating Habits

During the winter it can be easy to gorge on comfort and indulge in sweets around the holidays. In order to keep your skin healthy, you will want to eat the right nutrients. Don’t skip too much of the fun stuff, just be sure to include berries, oranges, and apples to promote healthy, glowing skin.

10. Take a Healthy Skin Promoting Supplement

If you can’t change your eating habits during the winter, the next best thing is taking a skin-promoting supplement. We have outlined some of our favorites on the blog here. What are some of your favorite winter skin care tips? Leave your comments below!
