How to Get Rid of an Ingrown Hair

Odds are, you’ve experienced an ingrown hair at some point in your life. That means you know how painful they can become. These inflamed bumps are pesky and typically leave us wondering how in the world we’re supposed to get rid of them.

1. Exfoliate the Affected Area

If you’re able to spot an ingrown hair forming before it becomes an inflamed bump on your skin, you can tackle it first through exfoliation. By exfoliating the affected area once or twice a day, you can remove the dead skin cells and also decrease some of the inflammation.

An easy way to exfoliate the body is to use a good quality body scrub. It’s important to choose a scrub with smooth particles, as opposed to jagged or rough particles, so not to cause any inflammation. Exfoliating regularly will help bring the hair to a head. Relatedly, if you get into the habit of exfoliating two to three times a week, this can actually help prevent ingrown hairs from forming in the first place.

2. Apply Heat

If you see the tip of the hair starting to surface, you’ll want to apply heat to the area. You’ve probably used hot water to steam your face and open your pores before and the same idea applies here. By using a hot compress, you can open up the pores and help the hair make its way out as smoothly as possible.

To do this, all you need to do is wet a clean washcloth with hot water and apply it. Try leaving it on for 10 minutes. That should do the trick! Plus, it may add some relief if your ingrown hair is already starting to become painful. 3. Free the Hair
